A new short film is putting Bristol’s thriving screen sector in the spotlight, showcasing the city’s diverse filming locations, production infrastructure and local talent.
Starring Bristol, produced by Bristol-based Mint Cake Productions in partnership with Bristol Film Office, The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol UNESCO City of Film and Films at 59, brings together scenes from a host of major film and television productions made in the city.
The film features productions including Wolf Hall, Rivals, The Forsytes, Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf and Death, The Outlaws, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, Skins and Stan & Ollie, demonstrating the breadth of productions that have drawn on Bristol’s locations and creative ecosystem.
Among the locations featured are Bristol Cathedral, Queen Square, Park Street, Brandon Hill, Bristol Harbourside, the SS Great Britain, Corn Street and Clifton Suspension Bridge, alongside locations including St Werburghs City Farm and the city’s waterways.
The project also highlights the depth of local production expertise, with Bristol-based actors and crew involved in its creation.
Bristol is one of the UK’s established production hubs, supported by significant studio infrastructure and a growing network of specialist businesses and talent. The Bottle Yard Studios, for example, now operates 11 stages across two sites, while its on-site creative hub provides services ranging from equipment hire, casting and costume to post-production, VFX and specialist technical support.
Investment in the region is also supporting the development of its future workforce. The BFI-funded All Set West programme, delivered by The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol UNESCO City of Film and Bristol Film Office, is helping to create training, work placement and networking opportunities for emerging talent across the West of England.
Starring Bristol offers a showcase of the assets behind the city’s growing reputation as a destination for screen production – from its distinctive locations and studio infrastructure to its established creative supply chain and talent base.
